And another link, this one to an excellent essay on why using the word "Retard" is as fucked-up as most of us know it to be, even when we don't acknowledge that fact and use it ourselves or don't object when others use it around us. And no, Stephen Colbert and Rush Limbaugh, it's not cool when you use it either.
Why we need real healthcare - the fluffybunnyfund reports that they have raised the minimum to cover upfront costs for hominysnark's medical procedure, which is good. What is not so good is that she's going be $30,000 in the hole when all is said and done. Trust me when I say this is a gigantic amount for a self-employed artist. Harass your Congress people (and check out F-Bod Studios, the artist in question's business site for some hilarious t-shirts and other interesting things. One of my favs for the amusement value - "Writer's Block - The Maltese Yorkie." Indeed!).
