These happened to me today, in the course of shopping for actual necessities: www.beautifeelshop.com/ProductDetails.asp
They were on sale at Schuler's in Har Mar so this not what I paid for them. They will undoubtedly be hard on my bad knee, but I already love them with an unnatural passion.

However, they are boots that cry out for an OUTFIT. I can assemble things from the flotsam and jetsam of my wardrobe, yes, but these seem to require steampunk. I might be able to go the custom route but not easily and not at the moment and I can't sew much beyond a button or seam. Thus I need recommendations for interesting steampunky clothing in large women's sizes (20-22 U.S).  I did manage to get glorious Spanx tights on sale today as well - www.spanx.com/product/index.jsp and jewelry's all covered. Thoughts on skirts, jackets, etc.?

You show me a photo of those shoes and then you expect THOUGHTS?!?!?!

I am too busy swooning, over here.

But a riding jacket with elbow patches.

LOL. :-)
Interesting notion - I'll take a look around on that.

Oh, those *boots!* Wow. Not my style personally, but oh, I appreciate them :)

I see velvet in your future, I think. Somewhere between burgundy and purple. Maybe in the form of a jacket, either short or cinched at the waist, over a long dress. And perhaps a hat or... an umbrella. Or a cane? Would that help with the knee?

I'm mostly flailing here. Those *boots!*

You have perfectly captured my reaction to them too. :-) Velvet would be lovely, come to think of it. And I like the cane idea - not sure if it'll help the knee, but it would look cool. Thanks!

Canes are cool in any setting, but especially this.

You'll post pictures when you figure it out, yes?

I think that can be arranged. :-) Part of this is about planning for A-kon 2010 in June; I figure I need all the help I can get to stand out at 16,000 person con.

i personally have the fashion sense of a poorly dressed goat, but i suggest you take a look at http://community.livejournal.com/steampunk_plus/.

Hmm. Full or gored skirt (wool or corduroy for ordinary days, or with crinoline for more vintage effect), definitely a jacket. Cleavage makes a good focal point for size 20-22, but that would distract attention from the boots. Higher-end second-hand shops might have something. When you see it, it will prob. call out to you.

Not much of a corduroy gal, but crinoline could definitely work. Thanks! :-)

Good thought! :-)
And no, I don't think you have the fashion sense of a goat, poorly dressed or other wise.

They are wonderful boots. They definitely cry out for an outfit. I have no real thoughts, but you might check out some of the Steampunk communities, such as [livejournal.com profile] steam_elegance or [livejournal.com profile] steamfashion for ideas.
