So New Year's Day I twisted my right ankle horribly during an an activity that shouldn't have led to ankle swellage. Friday, I went to work, driving on the ankle, but elevating it and bracing it once I got there. Saturday, we went to the Walker to see the artist book show, which was okay. We hit the giftshop afterward, which was surprisingly good for a change, seeing as I haven't found anything I wanted there since the place turned into the Angry Robot (thank you, S.N. Arly).
Eventually we went home. Then we went back out. And I went dancing on said ankle! Why, you ask? Well, we were at a formal lesbian soiree, complete with adequate bar band, and it seemed like the thing to do.
Sunday, ankle was very unhappy. I missed my friend's cool annual tea party in the hinterlands of surburbia because I really couldn't drive and my beloved equates the words "tea party" with "eldritch horror." This is what happens when you marry a butch. But there it is.

I did, however, get some useful things done while becoming one with the Epsom Salts. First up, I'm going to be a guest on the the League of Amazing Paranormal Women blog radio show (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/League_of_Extraordinary_Paranormal_Women/2009/01/30/ParaWomenRadio) on Thursday, January 29th at 7:45 EST. I'll be blathering sharing about lesbian ghosts, Haunted Hearths and other paranormal things.

I also finalized a date for a local release party for Night's Kiss; that'll be at True Colors Bookstore (4755 Chicago) in Minneapolis, on Valentine's Day. Time will probably be 7ish, that's TBD. I did just hear from the talented and adorable Nell Stark (http://www.nellstark.com/). She's going to drive all the way in from Madison in dead of winter to join the fun. Nell is the author of several hot romance novels as well as a number of stories in various erotica/erotic romance anthos. There's a third mysterious guest as well; I'll post when she confirms. Yay! :-D

Oh yeah, and I got a good start on my Loft Career Initiative Grant proposal, due in a couple of weeks and on the story I have due this month. And now, back to work.

Loft Career Initiative Grant? I'm trying to guess what kind of proposal would pry this out of which arts org or branch of government. Is this something funded by the National Endowment for the Arts? Sorry for my ignorance, but I would love an explanation.

Re women's paranormal lit, would you consider "The Yellow Wall-paper" to be a paranormal story? That's how it was read when it was first published (1890s, I believe), before it was reinterpreted by Second Wave feminism as a realistic tale of psychological breakdown.

This grant is sponsored by the local literary center (and various arts funding institutions) and is only open to Minnesota writers with at least one book out already and a new one coming out in the current year. It has to be used for promotion. I'm applying for all the grants I know about right now because the IT job sitch is not so pretty. :-(
And I figure thanks to the fact that so many people with the big houses got their books bounced or delayed for '09, I might have a shot at this one this year. Not really holding my breath but it feels like progress to keep trying.
