Action-packed Gaylaxicon schedule!
Oct. 7th, 2008 11:55 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
The convention will be in D.C., Oct. 10-13 - http://www.gaylaxicon2008.org/
Somewhere in this, I'll be signing at the Lethe table and of course, there'll be the Spectrum Awards banquet. Stop by and say hi!
Here's what I'm on:
What Makes It Speculative Friday 6:00 PM
When we talk about speculative works, what exactly do we mean? Are the Bond books speculative? How about the films? What about the Hannibal Lecter stories? What are the criteria for deciding something is "speculative fiction"? And what - if anything - is the difference between speculative fiction and science fiction/fantasy?
RR Angell
Warren Rochelle
Catherine Lundoff
Reading: Catherine Lundoff, JoSelle Saturday 10:00 AM
Catherine Lundoff
Joselle Vanderhooft
Is Bi The New Gay? Saturday 1:00 PM
So where are the bisexuals in speculative works? With the relative openness of gay and lesbian characters and themes, why don't we see more bisexuals? Where they *have* appeared, where have they been done well? Where have they not? Are there special challenges in trying to portray bisexuals in works? Are we seeing characters labeled as Bi in mass market works who are actually gay/lesbian? Why?
Catherine Lundoff
Jo Graham
How Do You Like Your Women? Saturday 3:00 PM
Who floats your boat? Do you want a hero like Xena or Buffy or Wonder Woman? Brainiacs like Sam Carter or Willow? Or bad girls like Starbuck and Faith? The world has suddenly provided us with a veritable buffet of beautiful women in speculative works. Do you find it amusing that a "speculative" work can't come out anymore without there being some form of "kick butt" or "smart glasses" female character?
Catherine Lundoff
Therese Szymanski
Is Sex A Viable Plot? Saturday 10:00 PM
There's nothing wrong with sex, but can sex alone carry a story? What about erotica….does it need a plot too? Or porn? Is plot the difference between them?
Victoria Janssen
Cecilia Tan
Nathan James
Catherine Lundoff
