7 days with whatever flu type sore throat endless nasal drip nonstop coughing variety of crud currently going around and now Jana's down with it too. Anyone got any surefire cures out there that we may not have tried? It's losing its charm. :-(

My household had the snot monster type last week, nasty congestion, aching sinuses, but it was over in five or six days and never involved much in the way of sore throat or coughing. May we not get each other's crud!

Steam, tea, and decongestants both herbal and chemical gave temporary relief from mine.

You reminded me of the weird metholly plug in thing that I always forget we have. It helped slightly until I had to plug in the noisy air purifier to drown out the coughing. Sigh. Hack!

you probably don't want to hear this

but it lasted 2 weeks in this household - thankfully I haven't contracted it yet. Check that it hasn't developed into a sinus infection - most people I know who've come down sick this winter have had those.

Garlic Soup has worked wonders for me in the past. (I think it might technically be egg drop soup ... but it was loaded with garlic and it cleared up my cold in record time)

Three weeks, actually. Today is the first day that my lungs haven't protested.

yeah, if you can tolerate something very spicy, that will help clear the sinuses. A pharmacist at my CVS (yes, it's my very own personal CVS) said that Theraflu is effective, Cepacol throat drops are the best unless you don't want that much medication in which case go with Ricola.

Be careful. The flu vaccine this season didn't work very well. If it doesn't go away soon, I'd see a doctor.

here's a get-well hug. :: HUG ::

Thank you! It's marginally better today so perhaps tomorrow will bring great things.

I'm sure you are doing the neti pot thing, the hot shower thing and the towel-over-your head steam thing... Also the hot & sour soup thing works well I think.
And Mucinex is great stuff for the chest.

We're mixing it up, though I think you are correct and it might have cleared up faster if both of us did all the same things involving steam and such. I'm finally more or less on the mend. Still working on the girlfriend and will suggest Mucinex next. Thanks!
