Got a lovely note from the wonderful Rob Gates inviting me to be guest at Gaylaxicon 2008 (http://www.gaylaxicon2008.org/) in Washington, D.C. in October. Alicia Austin is artist GOH! I love Alicia Austin! She illustrated a magazine cover from my very first published story. I treasure that artwork and am so going to ask her to sign it. Quite apart from that, I'm expecting that it's going to be a terrific con.

And was just informed that I've been accepted for Redroom (http://www.redroom.com/authors). Redroom is a new authorial website populated by the likes of Amy Tan and Dorothy Allison and Barack Obama and Susie Bright. And more head-scratchingly, me. I had applied weeks back for a lark and was rather surprised to find this in my email today, as I thought I'd been found unworthy: "Our editors have reviewed the material you submitted, researched your work, considered your contributions to the literary community, and decided that you will be an excellent addition to redroom.com. You will be in the company of the world's greatest writers, and we are happy to have you."
Awesome. I have contributions to the literary community.

Just browsing the list of "genres" is entertaining. I wonder what the shade of difference is between "alternative fantasy noir" and "dark fantasy". (Okay, I can probably figure it out, but still.)

Intriguing, isn't it? I say apply and go nuts once you're in. Turns out my profile was being checked out (lest I post nekkid pix of myself, I suppose) before sending it out into the real world. It's up now. The whole thing's sort of an interesting combo of unbearably pretentious and "Oh wow! It's the BIG TIME!" :-)
