And got to see the first 2 episodes of "Torchwood." I'd been wanting to see what the all the fuss was about. So far, dubious about some of the dynamics and the pacing, but like the premise, some of the lines and the more amusing innuendos. Not quite a convert yet but looking forward to the next round.

The lesbian episode may well make you want to stab things. The fuss around Torchwood, at least when series 1 aired, was 'how can it be so bad?!' Series 2 is shaping up to be a lot better, but if you want a quality Doctor Who spin-off, try the made-for-kids-but-still-very-good Sarah Jane Adventures. It's not as gay, but the writing is a lot better as is the acting.

Good to know - thank you! Here it's huge in skiffy fandom in part because there are actual queer characters and sex! Gasp! I shall adjust my expectations accordingly.
Must admit, I was never a Sarah Jane fan; too much screaming and falling down for me, I think.

She did fall down a lot. Maybe she had balance issues, or maybe she was just really drunk all the time... The actress is actually forbidden from screaming in the spin-off, which amuses me greatly.

Now THAT is tempting! I like Layla best from that generation of companions, and since I pretty much stopped watching the show regularly by the time the cricket player became the Doctor, I'm not very up to date.
