Catching up, slowly
Jan. 19th, 2015 04:47 pmJust got back from celebrating our 21st anniversary yesterday afternoon. We spent a lovely weekend in Stillwater, MN at the Rivertown Inn, which specializes in literary-themed rooms and books. I snared us the Jane Austen Suite so we enjoyed the nice fireplace and the lovely hot tub. I also got to roam around our rooms wearing my Pride and Extreme Prejudice tshirt while reading Austen's Lady Susan (Austen's epistolary Bad Girl novel that everyone forgets about) aloud to Jana. We went book shopping at St. Croix Antiquarian Booksellers, Black Letter Books, Valley Bookseller, and American Gothic Antiques, while enjoying splendid meals at Pub 112, Domacin and Reve Bistro. We also had interesting conversations with the other folks at the B&B, so all in all, a splendid weekend. Bookish spoils included one of Alexandre Dumas' travel books (Algiers), two Dumas novels I hadn't read before, an Anthony Hope novel I hadn't read yet, Georgette Heyer, a book on Regency Women, The Best of Aubrey Beardsley and a book on female spies of the American Civil War.
Then, we got to pick up my lovely new jacket from local artist Laurie Jacobi (all wool, FYI):

Good start to the week!
