Which pretty much boils down to sick + tendinitis flare up + very busy.
Mom's hospital check up went well today at least, and the two book proposals are continuing along. I'm almost done with the new fantasy one and have the historical one in progress. They are both due next week now, as a result of the aforementioned sick, etc.
I took Mom to Como Park last week, intending to wheel her about inside in the nice evenly paved conservatory, and ended up wheeling her about the uneven ups and downs of the zoo. This really helped kill my arms, unfortunately. But once I dropped her off, I went on to the Twin Cities Book Fest with Mr. Matt.
There, we chatted with sundry delightful folks (hey, Jessie Chandler, Alan DeNiro and Ellen Hart all have new books out! Buy all the things!), bought a few books, then went to Ytasha Womack's talk on Afrofuturism. This was pretty interesting (buy her book!), especially in light of the sundry discussions re: diversity in sff. Essentially, there's this parallel cultural explosion in which there are...more than two people of color on the future! I was flabbergasted. Well, not really. And I'm really glad to learn more about it because it's something pop culture and mainstream SFF sure isn't delivering on. I'm looking forward to learning more.
Back to the grindstone now.
