Midweek update
Sep. 11th, 2013 08:14 pmWell, we've got Mom sort of resettled. Monday and today were a whirl of visits from aides, getting the apartment ready, more or less, and spontaneous fun like several hours spent sitting around the local Socisl Security Office to get her a replacement card. Serious slice of life that was. Extra security for 9/11 (I think. Otherwise it seemed a tad extreme). Inaccessible bathrooms, because you know, why make them do golks with mobility issues can actual enter and exit? On the other hand, I chatted with a recently released homeless exconvict, several women from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and a Spanish speaker or two. Mom was excited because we encountered a Tibetan monk in traditional robes on our way out (holding the door so I could force the manual chair over the threshold and obstacle course to the exit). Considering we were waiting for 2 hours, I have to say people were uniformly pleasant in a way that large groups of very different people sometimes are not. I think that is one of the wonders of living here, the marvelous way that we can pull together when we need to, at least for short periods of time.
At any rate, Mom is her new home and we are juggling the payment stuff ( I need to create a paper trail to apply for finding) but she is ostensibly being check up on anyway. I am home listening to Delhi2Dublin, drinking goat's milk with spicy chocolate cocoa in it and writing. And nursing all my bruises and strains from moving the chair in and out of the car, etc.
