It has been a long week, though not as traumatic or unpleasant as I was fearing. We really only had one particularly bad day, that being Monday. But no more arguments after that. In addition to a metric crap ton of packing and organizing, we fit in a Farewell to NYC dinner, hosted by my mother. I think her obvious physical and mental deterioration was hard to take for some of her work friends, but the general feeling was celebratory (not to mention relieved that we were doing something to help her). I was pleasantly surprised that she was indeed willing and able to let go of numerous possessions, which made things easier (though she insisted on packing the typewriter carbon paper, because you never know). We moved her into a hotel on Tuesday night at her insistance (I was going to wait until Wednesday night) and I think that helped.

As of yesterday, she is on a cross country road trip out to Minneapolis by car and seems to be enjoying herself. I spent the morning in a marathon session with movers, Housing Works and GotJunk?, a removal company. By and large, everyone was pleasant and the movers adopted several things for their own homes, which was fine by me. Better they go to someone happy to have them. All told, this has been massively expensive and will take some time to pay off, which isn't great. But the financial sitch is less dire than I feared so yay on that.

After the apartment got cleared out, I took pix of the black mold in the bathroom walls, the constantly leaking faucet and the cracked windows invade we need to "chat" with legal entities. Mom's apartment was the last rent controlled apt. in a building gone condo so they handled "repairs" accordingly. After that, I took myself off for tea and plum sorbet, followed by a trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, then dinner with a friend. Ready to face the trip home now, I think.
