A couple of nonerotic acceptances that I don't think I bragged about here yet, at least not in their current forms -
"Three Views of the Maiden in Peril" to the fabulous folks at "Farrago's Wainscot" (http://www.farragoswainscot.com/index.html), due out in 2008. I'm so pleased this one found a good home. :-D
I'll also have a fairy tale called "A Winter's Tale" in Don Saker's "Queer Spec Fic Sampler" to be handed out at Gaylaxicon 2007. This should be a good collection, including as it does stories/excerpts from Melissa Scott, Don Sakers, Caro Soles, Laura Underwood and some other fine writers.

I'm having a reasonably a good year on the sf/f writing thus far but it would be nice if Haworth either keeps their fiction imprint or sells it to someone with more experience dealing with fiction, seeing as I've got stories in some 4 or 5 of their forthcoming anthologies. Fingers crossed on that for all concerned.

Hi, Catherine. Funny thing just happened, and you chance to be part of it. I'd posted a fragment of the CleanSheets review of your delicious-sounding "Crave." I was particularly tantalized by Jean's choice of "Emily Says," and I scribbled something about it. Got a nice, sexy note from one special blog-friend -- and then wandered over to Rachel Kramer Bussell's blog, where I discovered HER talking up "Crave." So I expanded my post, to that effect, and headed off to learn more about you.

And I happily discovered your LJ blog!! A small-ish world, indeed.

Mind if I add you to my f-list?

Justine

Thanks! I'm so glad you did - you just made my day! :-)))
I'm possibly closer to being Emily than the narrator, but not by much. Emily's pretty scary, I just ahve my moments. BTW, Jean's out on LJ now too - she's [profile] lizardlez and she'd be pretty happy to hear that you like her writing too.

Thanks for writing me back, and for tipping me to Jean's LJ blog.

FYI I used the "small-ish world" phrase in my note to you, even though I only today twigged to you two being An Item; I'd thought your only link with Jean was as the reviewee (or, rather, just one of the reviewees) on CleanSheets...

So, Emily's a bit scary, huh? And she's sorta -- you! Innnn-teresting! I've GOT to go find a copy of the book!

Thanks again! Hugs, Justine

Sorry to disapoint but we're just friends. She lives in a different country with her partner and I live with mine here. :-)
We didn't actually meet until she started reviewing my work. But it is entertaining rumor. :-)
Hope you like the book!

Dear Catherine:

Oh, okay, yes I see how I leapt at the wrong conclusion...but different countries, eh? Canada/US, no? Reading a bit in your blog, I'm still not sure of the name of your SigOther -- is it Janna?

Changing to the subject of literature, I was delighted just now to read a great interview with Jolie du Pre, all because I wound up on "lustbites," dragged there by Rachel (as I wrote a few minutes ago in my blog). It's a good piece, promoting her anthology on lesbians of color, "Iridescence," and by a curious coincidence you just wrote eloquently in your blog on racism. Have you read Jolie's piece?

Yep, her name is Jana. :-)
Jolie did a great job with that interview - she's very good at presenting herself (she's also a buddy of mine - lesbian erotica writers are a fairly small subset of the population :-). If you go back a bit a couple of weeks in my journal here, I did a review of "Iridescence." She did one of "Crave" as well in her blog as well.
"Iridescence" is one of the best smut anthologies that I've read recently - the overall quality is quite high and it's one hot read. Next up, I'm reading one of Sheri Livingston's stories, then I'm tackling Marilyn Jaye Lewis' "Entangled Lives," which is a collection of erotic memoir by various erotica writers, inluding Rachel. It just came out from Alyson, I think.

Good, glad we have Jana identified...you two been together a long while? (I and Joanne over a decade...)

Fun to know that you and Jolie are close -- as you say, it's a small circle. (I hung out at ERWA a bit several years back, came to recognize some of the more distinctive lesbian writers like Jean...never really written anything for publication myself, since I write and edit a lot in my work, and that's sorta enough. Or, at least, it HAS been...)

Soooo, I've gotta lay hands on "Iridescence" and the book Jean reviewed that has "Crave." (And "Entangled Lives"...) Thanks for the info.

G'night! Justine

We're headed for our 14th anniversary, so yeah I'd say it's been a while. Congrats on clearing the 10 year mark to you too as week! It's pretty amazing to get to know someone else that well. :-)
If you're interested in starting to network with some other erotica writers and maybe start sending your stories out, Jolie's GLBTPromo group is a good support network. There are a couple of others as well - let me know if you're interested.
BTW, I noticed that you have a lot of photos in your LJ. Are you familiar with Heather Corinna's work? http://femmerotic.com/photo.html
Heather does modeling and photography as well as fiction and editing. I think you might like some of her stuff. :-)
Happy reading!
