Weekend round up

Hell Cold is receding, though not as rapidly as anyone would like. I'm hoping it clears up in the next few days - Jana is currently encouraging me to go and get checked out for pneumonia if it doesn't. Having already had pneumonia, I'm really, really hoping that the ginger, the garlic, the Vitamin C, et al, do the trick. It has, of course, also been a nutty stressful week at the day job with lots of work at home, after long hours at the day job. Bleah. Hoping next week is calmer and healthier.
After I skidded home last night (the roads were remarkably bad), Jana made a marvelous Moroccan chicken stew, while Mr. Matt brought over strudel from Cecil's and we had a jolly time drinking tea and watching Stephen Fry's Bright Young Things. The latter doesn't hold up that well - bit too chaotic and too long - but was quite fun in spots and the company was excellent. Shu began some sort of building project in the basement halfway through (we don't know what yet but there was lots of regular wooden and metallic pounding noises that suggested something elaborate) which provided an interesting intermission.
Today, I'm trying to finish up holiday shopping before taking a friend to dinner for her birthday. So far, I've acquired things from/donated to Heifer International, Northland Native Products, Covet Consignment and Furnishings, the MCBA Book Arts Festival, Peace Coffee, Syracuse Cultural Workers, NOVA and the Ada Initiative, plus being gifted with Ursula's Le Guin's two volume short fiction set from Small Beer Press (squee!), purchased at Uncle Hugo's and Uncle Edgar's Bookstore. Plus a few homemade items. I'm aiming for a mix of local, fair trade and donations this year, which seems to be panning out.
Speaking of local, next Saturday (12/15) should be pretty lively. The MN Women's Art Festival is an all day event at the YWCA on Lake Street, featuring crafts, artwork, food and music by women artists. Excellent holiday shopping opportunities to be had at this.
Then in the afternoon, the Minnesota Center for Book Arts will be holding its annual Winter Book Reception. Winter Book is a collaborative project that features deluxe and chapbook bindings by local book binders, printers and paper makers of a work by a MN writer or poet. This year, the text is from works sung by Cantus, a local choral music group, and the deluxe binding is by Master Book Binder Jana Pullman (aka my wife :-). Stop by and check it out, if you're in the area.
