Epically awful fifteen hours or so

and it's not over yet. Last night we went to take in the underwhelming cinematic achievement that is HP and the Order of the Phoenix then came home to find that our house had been burglarized. It was one of those 'it could have been worse' situations. They/he/she didn't trash anything beyond a pane of glass on the front door and some food from the freezer, plus dumping some boxes of stuff. The cat wasn't injured in any way, apart from being annoyed. But they stole my laptop which I was setting up to replace our ailing PC, plus one of the tools that Jana really needs and the luggage we need for our NY trip in 2 weeks. And all our spare keys for the house, the car and the truck. My keys are chipped so that'll be a small fortune to replace them until such time as insurance reimburses us. Meantime, I get to miss my first day of work at the new job while I wait around for the insurance and locksmith to turn up. The fact that the police were here until 12:30 or so and I got no sleep is also a factor.
Oh and I got a rejection first thing this morning. And the burglar threw up the strawberries they swiped from our fridge all over the backyard so I got to clean that up too.
Not to mention no longer feeling safe in the house we've lived in for nearly 8 years now.
The week has to get better from here, right? :-(((

Holy crap! I'm glad there wasn't significant damage, but damn that's rough. Gotta wonder what was going on with them that they focused on the refrigerator.

We wondered about that too. This clown actually hauled the microwave across the room (we're remodelling the kitchen) and plugged it in to make him/herself dinner. Then tossed his/her cookies in the backyard (which sort of gladdens the heart provided that he/she wasn't contagious). On the bright side, at least they didn't take much.

gah! that's not good.

i really like my security system company, if you're looking for recommendations for one. gssc. they're very nice whenever i set the darned thing off accidentally, and having a security system sign in one's yard is proven to make random burglars go away. (if they are purposeful burglars who want to break into your house in particular, those are not very deterable. but if they are looking for random houses to break into, they will pick one that looks like it doesn't have a system. usually.)

Not so sure about that part just because things weren't trashed more. Turns out there's been some other problems on the block - we're all getting caught up but not in fun ways. :-(
