Post CONvergence...
Jul. 10th, 2007 08:01 pmIt takes me 2 hours just to adjust to being there, you know. Nearly 3000 or so fen in one hotel is pretty overwhelming. We are a goofy tribe. When you consider how shy and awkward most of us are as a group, watching us take over a hotel is most instructive. And involves a great deal of cleavage. :-)
Con review, beginning with my stuff: was on 3 panels. They went well - there was some decent discussion and no one did anything ghastly. Was introduced to a new erotica writer who just moved to town. She seems quite amiable and I'm looking forward to chatting more (huzzah!). Ran around with various friends and had good chats with the beauteous Rebecca,
thaedeus, Bryan Worra (whose new book of spec fic poetry will be out real soon now!),
kalmn and other fun folks. Acquired cool earrings and finally managed to connect with Katie of
dragonsden and dropped off the charoite I wanted her to set for the last year or so (and it's ready to be picked up! V. pleased and excited to see finished results. :-). I also attended a few tracks of the 'Nerds of Color' programming track, which was a fun addition to the con. There were some good conversations and I look forward to participating in whatever comes out of it in the next year or so. It was nice to see folks attempt this at a big media con like CONvergence. My only criticism is that it seemed like some folks hadn't read anything recent (like less than 7 years old) so some of the critiques were based on older works. I suspect that'll change by next year since people had lots of suggestions.
Overall, a thoroughly good time, except for the unavoidable migraine on Sunday (bad thunderstorm :-().
Other than this, working on gutting and rewriting a story for an anthology and doing some not terribly well organized job hunting.

As for recent works, there are sooo many things coming out it seems harder and harder to keep up. I just read Territory (Emma Bull) but there are so many things I want to read that I just don't have time for!

I haven't checked out 'Territory' but I'm hoping to get to it soon.
