It's been a reasonably quiet weekend. Friday evening, we met a friend at the Modern Cafe for dinner before heading over to The Ritz Theater for the Ballet of the Dolls/Le Cirque Rouge vaguely Nutcracker-related burlesque/ballet/cabaret show. We had enough time between dinner and the show that we stopped by Rogue Buddha Gallery to check out some interesting paintings and steampunky art. They ranged from the very cool to the fairly disturbing - definitely worth checking out. The Ballet of the Dolls show had a similar range. It was fairly chaotic, though some of the songs and the dancing were very good. The burlesque portions went on a wee bit too long and weren't well-integrated into the story arc, such as it was. But then not much was. Interesting evening and parts of it worked well.

Saturday was intended to be power-cleaning today (we haven't been home with time and leisure to clean in about six months, so the place is a tad icky) but we ended up at a holiday open house hosted by some of Jana's friends who live in a fabulous renovated church in St. Paul. It was very pleasant, though we established that we talk about our cats waaaay too much. There was more marathon cleaning on Sunday as our friends Mark and Laurence were in town visiting from Florida. The place was more or less presentable and dinner more or less held up (the chicken dried out even thought I was cooking it in a sauce). Good conversation though and a very pleasant holiday, even though we forgot to put out the cranberries and walnuts which I diligently cooked up late on Saturday night.

Now I've got a whole week off and the following to work on: final tweaks to my werewolf novel, Silver Moon, which I'm sending it off to
Lethe Press real soon now; polishing up a guest blog post for Morgen Bailey's blog; drafting out a short story for a call I got last week; progress on novels. Oh, and there will be plumbers (leaks and sewer line clean-out) and furnace work and some time with friends. Should be lively.

Finally,
Minnesotans United for All Families is trying to raise cash to fight the anti-marriage amendment. If you can't donate, please spread the word. If you can donate, now would be a good time. For extra incentive, here's an awesome piece by Scott Wooledge from the Huffington Post.
Getting to work now.
