"Fairy Tales for Adults" - no, not that kind. Sorry. Just with adult protags.

BU's description:
"Catherine Lundoff  tells us of Vadija the Merry, whose laugh inspires a
talespinner to begin a life-changing journey.  Shauna Roberts gives us a science fiction retelling of the old tale Maid on the Shore.  Theresa Crater leads us down beneath the
Tor to meet the fae, as we follow a young woman's initiation to become a
priestess. Vonnie Winslow Crist spins us a tale about a young man who makes a deal involving death, deceit, and devotion with a swan maiden. And Trisha
Woolridge enchants us with the story of  a young woman wandering her
uncle's manor, who discovers a curious portrait in a dusty side room.
So sit back, and let yourself be swept away by these
five fantastic fairy stories."

These are a lot of fun and are a monthly occurrence. Check ten
out to hear some new women authors.

Saturday kicked off with a quiet breakfast - just me and David Sedaris (I was reading "Me Talk Pretty One Day") looking out at the flamingo habitat. From there, I wandered off to the Editors Panel, which included Rachel Kramer Bussel, Celli Collins, Miranda Forbes and D. L. King. This panel focused on their past and upcoming projects. Post panel, I went to go hear some of the Renaissance Books authors read their work. While I enjoyed almost all of them, Blake Aarens was a major standout. Anyone who can make me contemplate sex with John Malkovich is pretty talented. :-)

After the reading, M. Christian, Blake, Cecilia, D.M. Atkins and I went downstairs for lunch. We enjoyed a remarkably good lunch at the unprepossessingly named "Burger Joynt." Conversation was fun and lovely but I ducked out early to treat myself to afternoon tea at the Bellagio. The tea and finger sandwiches were excellent. Then there was the ambience. Sitting between the cigar smokers and the casino was not what I had in mind. But that's Vegas for you.

I trotted back to try and catch another panel but in the way of such things, fell into hallway conversation with authors Debra Hyde, Kate Dominic and M. J. Williamz. Conference organizer Kathleen Bradean eventually ordered us down the hall to the cocktail party room to make it looked lived in. We didn't have to do so for long since the place filled up with everyone in their finery. I had numerous conversations and a terrific nonalcoholic cocktail. There was a rope bondage demo and some announcements I couldn't hear and lots of merriment. When, like all good things, it came to an end, I went off to dinner with Andrea Dale/Dayle and her hubby, Kate Dominic, Charlotte Gatto and an author who goes by Darling Cecilia. Dinner conversation covered the SCAz, bookbinding, publishing, writing, salad and probably some things I'm forgetting.

Speaking of which, if I forgot to mention you and we met, please blame the jetlag. I'm still a bit groggy. :-(
Overall, good conference. It was great to meet a bunch of folks i'd only interacted with via email before. The two main things I'd like to see change would be a different city next time (my lungs felt scoured from all the smoke) and a clearly defined space and time for author/publisher book sales and autographing. Apart from that I thought the organizers did a fine job and I'm glad I got to attend.
