Into the wilds of the weekend
Sep. 18th, 2010 02:42 pmWent to hear Mark Rich talk about his new biography of C.M. Kornbluth last night at DreamHaven. I've read a few of Kornbluth's stories but didn't know much about him, other than he wrote memorable aliens. Mark did a nice job of piquing my interest, however, and I left the store with a copy of the book and am looking forward to reading it. After that, we were all off to an okay Italian place on Lake Street (Merlin's Rest being overfull) for merriment and pro writing discussions.
It made for a better end to the week than I was fearing. Apparently, the day job has been taking more of a toll than I realized, leading to me having a minor breakdown at work in front of my manager on Friday morning, and subsequent painful discussions, the outcome of which was that I would give him some time to try and make things better. This would probably entail an actual miracle, but I'm trying to keep an open mind.
Today, I went and got a massage. My back is a nightmare of stressed and twisted muscles, as are my arms and neck so while pleasant, it was less fun than it might have been. The therapist and I talked a bit about meditative breathing exercises so I think I'll be giving those a shot. For now, I'm off to go use one of Terry's marvelous field corn hot pads and work on revisions. If I can get the residency application done tomorrow, make a dent in novel revisions and start poking at the new sekrit project (because there is one :-), I think I'll start to feel better. We'll see.
