Shopping Friday, in all its glory
Nov. 27th, 2009 04:58 pmAlmost needless to say, we are not mall people. We will be celebrating the the Shopocalypse tomorrow morning at the Riverview Theater at 10AM with the Reverend Billy, the Church of Life After Shopping and the documentary What Would Jesus Buy? Reverend Billy is all about putting "The Odd Back In God!" He's spreading the Good Word about building local economies and neighborhoods while combating sweatshops and environmental destruction. And I've heard he puts on one hell of a revival meeting.
Today, we celebrated the Rev. Billy's message with the following:
Today, we celebrated the Rev. Billy's message with the following:
- Picking up a few things at Chocolat Celeste (locally-owned, handmade chocolates) for the small tea party and meet the kitties gathering that we're having tomorrow.
- A trip to Wet Paint, St. Paul's excellent independent art store for needed Jana supplies as well as a small watercolor set for me. I haven't painted in years but I'm feeling the itch to start again.
- Stopped by Cecil's Deli for provisions and lunch. Cecil's, for those not familiar with it, is a terrific family-run Jewish deli in St. Paul.
- Got the all-important additional kitty toys at the Southside Farm Store, our locally-owned pet food store that also adopts out rescue kitties.
- Went to True Colors Bookstore, our locally-owned feminist book emporium, to order some books and buy some holiday cards.
- Ordered Louise Brooks earrings from Persephone Plus for a friend who's having a rough year and definitely needs Louise Brooks earrings.
