Almost needless to say, we are not mall people. We will be celebrating the the Shopocalypse tomorrow morning at the Riverview Theater at 10AM with the Reverend Billy, the Church of Life After Shopping and the documentary What Would Jesus Buy? Reverend Billy is all about putting "The Odd Back In God!" He's spreading the Good Word about building local economies and neighborhoods while combating sweatshops and environmental destruction. And I've heard he puts on one hell of a revival meeting.

Today, we celebrated the Rev. Billy's message with the following:
  • Picking up a few things at Chocolat Celeste (locally-owned, handmade chocolates) for the small tea party and meet the kitties gathering that we're having tomorrow.
  • A trip to Wet Paint, St. Paul's excellent independent art store for needed Jana supplies as well as a small watercolor set for me. I haven't painted in years but I'm feeling the itch to start again.
  • Stopped by Cecil's Deli for provisions and lunch. Cecil's, for those not familiar with it, is a terrific family-run Jewish deli in St. Paul.
  • Got the all-important additional kitty toys at the Southside Farm Store, our locally-owned pet food store that also adopts out rescue kitties.
  • Went to True Colors Bookstore, our locally-owned feminist book emporium, to order some books and buy some holiday cards.
  • Ordered Louise Brooks earrings from Persephone Plus for a friend who's having a rough year and definitely needs Louise Brooks earrings.
Last night's post-feasting activity was watching The Assassination Bureau, Ltd (1969) with Diana Rigg and Oliver Reed. Think steampunkish sensibilities and cheerfully snarky humor about justifiable homicide. Tonight, I think it will be playing with the new paints.

Ooh, those chocolates look delicious! Also, Louise Brooks earrings! How cool! I am really not a big shopper, so probably wouldn't have gone out to buy things today even if I'd been well, but your shopping trip sounds pretty exciting.

We're all about the wandering about town. :-) Actually, I don't get to do half as much as I'd like but that's probably better for the budget.

We don't have Rev. Billy but we do have http://www.keeplouisvilleweird.com/
I didn't purchase anything yesterday, but today I participated in a read-a-thon at my local independent bookseller.
