Agent query away!
Jun. 4th, 2011 08:51 pmJust fired off my second agent query for Silver Moon. I've been fortunate enough to attract some publisher interest in the book already so the heat is somewhat off. I promised myself I'd try for three agents then go with the interested publisher, assuming the interest is still there after 2 more agents shoot down the query. It feels like one of those genre rights of passage that I haven't experienced yet so I'm trying to keep an open mind about the process. At the same time, I'm not terribly optimistic about this book being picked up by an agent. It's not an issue of quality--I think it's a good novel with something different to say--but it's likely to get clobbered with issues of saleability. A novel about a middle-aged woman turning into a werewolf at menopause and starting to come out as queer at the same time is not likely to be seen as having best seller potential at this point in time. But we'll see.
In the meantime, I'm plugging away at the title story for the new collection and it's inching closer to completion. It's one of those weird things where a story won't let go of me but also isn't coming very quickly. I need to go get a couple of hours sleep before I head out to Rain Taxi's Bedtime Stories/Nightshift at the Walker Art Center for the first Northern Spark Festival. The readings will be in Walker Field from 3AM-5AM and it should be a lot of fun.
And next week, I'll be at Des Moines Pride, but more on that later.
