A week that includes major disasters in Japan, an attempt to return to 19th century child labor in my ex-home state of Missouri (I'm a Washington University grad) and an enthusiastic effort to return to 19th century labor standards in Wisconsin tends to put one's own life in perspective. While I like reading about it, I can't say I want to live there and will continue to work to prevent that.

That said, I unfortunately missed Kristen Livdahl's reading of her new Aqueduct Press novella, A Brood of Foxes, on Wednesday due to being stuck at work. I heard it went well though and am looking forward to reading it. My reading at
DreamHaven last night went smashingly well in the sense of having a full house and lots of great energy. Pictures here if you feel inclined to open Facebook. I sold a few books and other publications, including some copies of the last issue of Tales of the Unanticipated Magazine which includes my novella, "The Eqyptian Cat." "Cat" will also be in my forthcoming short fiction fantasy and historicals collection, A Day at the Inn, A Night at the Palace and Other Stories (working title, existing only in my head at the moment), which I'm plugging away at right now. I also read from Hellebore and Rue, Silver Moon (final edits are making progress), "Red Scare" (another new collection story) and my story "At Mother Laurie's House of Bliss" from the forthcoming Ladies of Trade Town anthology (HarpHaven Publishing, edited by the redoubtable-in-a-good-way Lee Martindale). Then we were off en masse to Merlin's Rest Pub for drinks and pasties and lively conversation. All in all, an excellent start to this year's appearance season, between Marscon and this first reading.

Next up, I'm working on questions about Hellebore and Rue for a joint interview with JoSelle to appear on the blog of the amiable and talented author
Tracy Godsey. Tracy gives good interview and has a number of interesting works out so her blog is well worth checking out.
Tomorrow, I'll be doing another round of fun stuff around Hellebore and Rue, this time the
Outer Alliance podcast hosted by the awesome Julia Rios. Jean Marie Ward, Lisa Nohealani Morton and I will be reading and talking about the stories in the anthology. I'll post links to both of these when they're finalized and up.

In other news, it looks like I'll be participating in a group author signing at
Outwrite Books and Coffee in Atlanta. Details are still being finalized by the Outlantacon/Gaylaxicon committee but I don know that Amber Benson will be signing as well. Should be fun.
