Weekend update
Jan. 23rd, 2011 10:05 amIt's been pretty mellow here at the little house in the wintery North. My plans for overtime got cancelled due to the test environment being down. Actually, they were other people's plans for yet more overtime on my part, but I digress.
So Friday night, we curled up and ate Chinese takeout (as opposed to one of our other options) and watched "I Can't Think Straight." It's a romance about a Jordanian Palestinian woman and a Muslim woman of Indian descent who meet and fall in love. There are many moments in which the Improbability Drive is necessary to negotiate the plot, but it's entertaining and frequently quite funny; we'd recommend it.
Saturday was a birthday gathering at Midori's for our pal, Rebecca. We had a lovely time lunching and getting caught up. Then it was back home to work on pulling together my new collection and start taxes. The latter will be even less pleasant than usual this year, joy. The evening was spent at the Ampersand Club's yearly post-holiday gathering. Ampersand is s group of local book collectors, sellers, book binders and printers - Jana's s board member, I'm a hanger-on. Lots of somewhat depressing chats about money and the state of the book biz, but then I was also quite tired so I expect that tinged things a bit.
Today, we write. And edit. And do more taxes. Then finish up by going to see Dessa at the Cedar tonight, which I'm really looking forward to. Then back to the grind.
