It has been a week and a half of sheer awesomeness (used in that hip ironic way meant to indicate the opposite). On my way home last week, the check engine light came on in my car, the first plumber turned in an estimate of $4000 to put in a new water heater and the dentist announced that Jana needed an (uninsured) crown. All in the same 24 hour period.

Fast forward to now: I've worked 9 out of the past 10 days, and overtime almost every day. Am very, very fried. At work, they pulled the plug on the release we were trying to finish, which on the one hand gives me back this weekend but on the
other, means that January is going to suck beyond my wildest dreams of suckitude. And I can imagine a LOT of suckitude.

But as of today, the car now has a new solenoid, which was cheaper than a fuel pump (first guess on the problem) and the second plumber was more reasonable and the temporary crown is
fitted to Jana's tooth.

The water heater has been purchased. Granted when I say "purchased," I'm glossing over what happens when I go to Menard's with my gal, particularly when I'm exhausted. Jana likes to process and chat with hardware store employees. For protracted periods of time. I like to make my purchase and get out, immediately if not sooner. Sample dialogue repeated by way of emotional check-in: J "Well, do you really think we should get the 12 year warranty as opposed to the 9 year? What if we go back and look at the short one again?"
C "Yes. That one. Now."
Exchange repeated a few more times, interspersed with J asking hardware guy his recommendations and thoughts. All of which result in us getting what I picked originally. Not surprisingly, hardware store staff like her much better than me.

Oh dear, I'm sort of like Jana in hardware stores, but not in clothing stores. I'm more like where's my size, how much is it, here, take money and let me out of here. Glad you got the water heater, though. Let me know how it works, out. Ours is pretty old.
I really hope January will not be as sucky as you fear.

Not, alas, very likely. :-( Day job hell will increase, unfortunately.
