Post Marscon collapse...
Mar. 5th, 2007 09:54 pmWell, it was a fun-filled convention as always.
Friday, I more or less moderated a panel on amazons. It was pleasant and somewhat incoherent but a reasonably good time was had by all.
Then it was off to the ghastly hotel restaurant in time to get snubbed by the host. This incidentally is a really clever thing to do in a hotel restaurant filled with fen at a hotel which hosts several cons a year. After all, we never, ever talk to each other. Must be something you learn at restaurant school.
But the conversation was lots of fun and that made up for a great deal.
Then it was off to Krushenko's for more chatting and hanging out.
Saturday was the BU reading, followed by a panel on Japanese Horror. Have I mentioned I know absolutely nothing about Japanese Horror? Yet there I was. Such is the influence of the very shiney and charismatic Bryan Thao Worra.
Then there was dinner and masquerades and yet more hanging out.Got to see Mr. Bad Example's Carl costume - very cool. :-) And partake of his witty conversation as well as that of thaddeus, and a number of other very fun folks. Sunday found me moderating a tiny room packed with people wanting to discuss time travel stories. Have to reuse that one at other cons - it was very popular.
Came home to find out that I got a reading slot in NYC in August, barring unforeseen circumstances. :-))))
Then went to work and learned that if I ever want to retire from IT or anything else, I'd better start job hunting. Oh well, win some, lose some.
Next up, whining about being abandoned by fab girlfriend for 2 months. Sigh.

I was sorry to miss the Amazon panel
Date: 2007-03-06 07:03 pm (UTC)This was one of those Cons where I didn't make it to half the panels I wanted to, and I was sorry to miss the Amazon panel and the Japanese horror panel and the time travel one, too.
Yes the ghastly hotel restaurant! The breakfast buffet wasn't bad but the actual cafe and bar are both just weird, aren't they? Not only are things overpriced (expected) but the atmosphere is so odd. The wait-staff all have this strange, confused look about them. I was worried there might be a gas leak in the kitchen.
Nice to meet you (in a bloggish not really meeting you sort of way, I mean, lol).
Re: I was sorry to miss the Amazon panel
Date: 2007-03-07 02:55 am (UTC)Nice to meet you too - we'll have to try doing it offline at the next con. :-))) What are you at next?
I think it's WisCon for me, then CONvergence and Diversicon, plus some out of town things.
I'm guessing we've run across each other at some point so we just need to put names and faces together.
I must admit that I don't get to a ton of programming at cons any more either - I generally end up camped out somewhere talking to bunches of people and forget half of what I wanted to go to. I did make it to Eleanor's reading, part of a panel on web comics and the masquerade in addition to things I was on.
We suspect the wait staff is exhausted from having to cover for the idiot at the door; it's always painful when that happens. :-(
Re: I was sorry to miss the Amazon panel
Date: 2007-03-07 04:01 pm (UTC)Are you going to do any panels at CONvergence or Wiscon? I could find you and introduce myself afterwards. I'm not going to do any more panels this year, I don't think, unless I'm recruited because they need someone. I really do like being in the audience more. :-)
Re: I was sorry to miss the Amazon panel
Date: 2007-03-08 01:03 am (UTC)When I'm not on panels or doing readings, I tend to be hanging out in centrally located spots with my friends. We're a mostly amiable lot - so please do seek us/me out.
I've also got a new book coming out this year and will be endlessly plugging my readings and such. Looking forward to meeting you!
