Had annual review today with hyperactive, Type A manager. It didn't go badly but there's something about wrestling my way through "since I'm now indispensible, you need to pay me more money" type conversations that are really draining. That and I seem to be everyone's therapist all of a sudden.
Urk. Looking forward to the weekend and the Klezmatics.

Here's hoping you wrestled your way to a successful outcome, in the pay department.

Well, if they don't cough up the bucks, someone else will. I'm pretty good at breaking code. :-)
The problem is that the company I work for tends to be weirdly dysfunctional and co-dependent and it speaks to the parts of my hyperactive weasel brain that even therapy couldn't root out. Short version: it's hard to disentangle myself but $ will give me a good excuse if I need one.

this is coming up for me soon, as well. And there is a rather large gap between me and all of my male co-workers, salary-wise. I make about 7K less than my lowest-paid counter part, who has only been here 6 mos. longer than me. I think it's because I didn't negotiate my salary upwards when I started. I HATE those types of negotiations. It is very hard for me to overcome the "they must have offered me what I"m worth", etc. I hate that it is a game. *sigh*. Anyways, I read this article on Alter-Net a few weeks ago, and I totally fall into that dynamic!!

Ooh, good article! I do have to give my manager this - he didn't pull any of that kind of crap, just asked me what I wanted. I told him they were paying me below market for my work and what other companies were offering me and he said he get it taken care of.
Re: your salary sitch. That sux! We need to get you moved to a place with better job opportunities (hint hint:-); they get more competitive if they have to fight over you.

I have successfully reserved a Klezmatics ticket, and will see you there! (No Floyd, though.) I will be wearing my dancing shoes, in case the spirit moves me.

Trying to imagine a world in which a manager would just say, "You really rocked last year, here's your pile of money!" (Perhaps together – the Mak’tar chant of strength: Larak tarath. Larak tarath.)

I did make it to the category of 'rock star' last time, now I'm 'management material' and a 'corporate asset' (quotes from recent evals). Kinda scary when I stop to think about it. :-)
But we will have fun Saturday and all of this will be temporarily forgotten and that is all good.
