I'm currently filling out my Artist Agreement for A-Kon 2010 - makes me feel like a grown-up author/editor type person. :-)
Plus, omigod(dess), the line-up: Abney Park is playing Saturday night; Peter Beagle, Esther Friesner, the ever-charming Lee Martindale and a bunch of other folks. Wow. Should be fun.

Also, we have the return of "Inflagranti Delicto: Writing Good Sex Scenes". I'll be teaching a slightly longer version of the workshop from last year on Saturday, July 10, from 10AM to 3PM at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. If you or someone you know has ever longed to hear me talk a lot about writing about sex, this is that opportunity

Good sex...

Ooooh, I wish I lived closer to Minneapolis! Anything called "In Flagrante Delicto..." has got to be great!

Hugs, and much success there! J

Thank you! We'll see each other at WisCon the weekend before that, I believe. I'm expecting A-Kon to be quite different from WisCon, just a hunch. :-)

Is there writing-on-the-spot and having it critiqued? I am a total non-starter in such races, but if it's you offering advice and us drinking it in and asking questions, I will seriously consider it.

It is in fact me offering advice --talking about and reading different ways of writing about sex, going over what sex scenes get used for in terms of genres, plot, etc., comfort levels and how-tos, fun with descriptive passages, markets and so forth--and answering questions. There are some writing exercises but they are to get folks started, not to critique on the spot.
I thought about doing a critique type version, but I think it would have to be a considerably longer class. Last year, I taught for 4 hours and had 16 or so signed up; everyone wanted something longer, so I'm trying it at 5 hours for this year to see how that goes. :-)

Ah, yes, if I had stopped to think through the logistics, I'd have realized there wasn't really room for the things I dread. Thank you. Serious consideration now engaged.
