Picking up where I left off...

as we had a couple of days without the blazing fast Interwebs. My personal favorite: WiFi was only available in the lobby of the hotel in Hereford. Specifically: in the green chair across from the desk, but nowhere else in the lobby or in the hotel. We concentrated on sightseeing rather than updating as a result.
So, Hereford.
The Mappa Mundi, a very early map of the world complete with strange creatures and people in all of its flat glory, is pretty remarkable. It's one of the largest intact maps of the time period and well worth a look.
The chained library is interesting up to a point. I ran across some rather weird errors in the descriptions (if you say you have documents from before the invention of the printing press, it's difficult for all of your books to be printed, for example), as did Jana. She was less excited about it than she hoped but still thought it was worthwhile. We also admired the Cathedral. From there it was onto the Old House, which is a museum house that dates back to the Tudors. Lovely furniture and interesting objects, which made it worthwhile. We also found a very good Thai restaurant (Thai on Wye, if you're in the area). The hotel was something of a dilapidated old pile but must have been really something in its glory days. On the whole, a pleasant interlude (and lunch at All Saints Church was quite tasty).
More later. Still jetlagged. :-(
