I just got asked to be a guest at a (mostly) anime convention in Texas that's been expanding to include writing/reading tracks and other fandoms and such. They got upwards of 16,000 attendees last year. My eyes are bulging a bit at the corners just thinking about it. More on that when I finish processing (I said "Yes," of course, seeing as it is a fab invite of the rockstar variety and I hear good things. These folks do it up right. But wow. :-).

And there'll be an Atlanta update shortly I'm seeking a diplomatic way to talk about what went awry, while burbling about what went well.

Would this be Project Akon?

That would indeed. I figured I'd wait until I got all my stuff out to them before announcing announcing it, as opposed to being coy. :-)
You been to it?

I have, back in my cosplay queen days. I haven't been for a few years.

It's a cool guest gig. I hope the new writer track has some success, and you have a good time.

Catherine, the writer track is going for about ten years old now, and has been growing well from the beginning. I've been told there are folks who come to A-Kon just for the writer track, and given the number of people whose butts are in the seats for multiple panels in a row, I believe it.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed, Lee. It's good to hear about this track at the convention.

Well, actually, she would have gotten that impression from my entry above. I had thought from what Jamie said that it had only been around for a couple of years so I must have not been completely following.

I think I know this con. And if I'm right I had a lovely chat with its founder recently :)

Yep, and oddly enough, me too. :-)
So...just thinking but if I'm going to a con the size of a large town, we maybe should talk further about the project we started talking about back in October. I'm sensing potential for publicizing such a thing. Just saying.

Oh yes! Let's talk and let's do it :)

Ohhotdamn!

Errr....I mean....how delightful.

Catherine, I am thrilled that you've said "Yes". They do it right and then some, the programming rocks in surround-sound, and I'm pretty sure you can cut a deal with my spousal unit (who watches my table when I'm paneling) to do the same for you. (And lemme tell ya, woman, that man is a first rate merchanter.)

And I heard this morning that Esther Friesner has also said "Yes". Color me ecstatic on all counts.

Oh cool! I hear great things about her but have never officially met her. :-)
re: tabling. Oooh, that could work. Let me get back to you on that. Looking forward to hanging out (and running around a lot to various programming items, I suspect).

I would be pleased and honored to affect the introductions.

Plenty of time for the plotting and the planning, distribution of survival tips, etc. My wicked little mind is already twitching on mischief.

Congrats! Woah, big con, though...

Hey, I suggested a panel for CONvergence 2010 that you might be into signing up for--Erotic Fantasy (writing it, reading it, trends, etc).

I think the list goes up for panel volunteers sometime in Feb.

Huge con. It takes me hours to adapt to CONvergence as it is. I think I'll have to do Anime Detour for training purposes. :-)
CONvergence generally contacts me sometime between now and February, so we'll see how that goes this year. Last year, they sent out invites after deciding on the program. It was weird.
