or perhaps just an enthusiastic shuffle.
Done since Friday:
  • Got to the MIA to see Sin and Salvation: WIlliam Holman Hunt and the Pre-Raphaelite Vision show on Saturday. Liked many of the paintings, including "The Lady of Shalott" and "The Afterglow in Eqypt" as long as I didn't dwell too much on the politics thereof. The portrait of his mother in law, who absolutely loathed him, was priceless. Overall, interesting show and worth seeing if you like the style. They don't have "Isabella and the Pot of Basil" though so if you're hoping for the morbid charm of the whole "I keep my beloved's severed head in a houseplant, watered by my tears" thing, you're out of luck.
  • Canned many jars of mango chutney, only to be met with the inquiry, "Great. What do we do with it now?" So if you have any great recipes involving chutney, please send them my way.
  • Started cleaning for the first time in ages. So that's what the floor of my office looks like. I'd forgotten.
  • Finished my segment of a two author interview that will run in "The View from The Loft" sometime real soon now.
  • Finished revising and submitted two stories that have been languishing about the house,
  • Did some work on Silver Moon - word count update soon. I'm trying to clear another milestone first.
  • Started a couple of new stories for fall deadlines.
  • Went to see "The Curse of Yig" at the Fringe, figuring Midwestern snake god cults, what could possibly go wrong. Found it disappointing, particularly since I've liked these actors in other things. Ah well, such are the perils of Fringing.
Next up, canning pickles and talking to my old manager about a job she is optimistic about. And writing up a short guest author dealie for my friend's forthcoming book. More on that when there's more on that.

Raphael and I went to that exhibit last week. We were mesmerized by "The Lady of Shalott," and wished for annotations. I remarked about the tapestry of Hercules picking the apples of the Hesperides that it was very Tolkienian; then we went to look at the text of the poem, which the museum had thoughtfully posted on the wall, because Raphael had never read it, and I said, "Whoa! You can really see the influence of Tennyson on Tolkien in this, can't you!"

As for the chutney, obviously you must make a lot of Indian food and have the chutney on the side. It's also good as a condiment on sandwiches -- notably chicken or turkey, but I use it with tofu and the soft bland chevre that comes in little logs. And you can make egg salad with curry spices and put chutney on the sandwich bread for that.

Jana's comment on "The Lady" was "Wow. Your hair does that in the morning sometimes." :-) But yes, it is a gorgeous piece.
Thanks for the chutney adive too! I'll have to try that.
