But hey, at least I got to....
Mar. 15th, 2008 06:23 pmhear Robin Morgan speak this morning.
It was a fairly crappy week for a variety of reasons that I don't feel much like going into involving the Cold that Will Not Die, (crushing) personal disappointments (that I'll get over soon enough, thanks to getting bored easily, especially by moping about) and so forth, which is why I haven't posted much.
So I'm just going to start with today as though the rest of the week hasn't happened until I'm ready to deal with it.
We went to the belated ( a week after actual Int'l Women's Day) International Women's Day celebration at the U. of M today to hear Robin Morgan (http://www.robinmorgan.us/) speak. Morgan, for those of you who may not be familiar with her work, is one of the so-called Second Wave feminists who've been around forever and is still doing worthwhile work. She gave a rousing speech on global feminism(s), talked about her work helping women organize in Nepal and gave a plug to The Women's Media Center (http://www.womensmediacenter.com/). It was good and it was inspirational. I started shopping for things to do at the info tables the minute she finished. And she was very charming when I had her sign my copy of "Fighting Words." Big thumbs up on the Morgan Experience.
I'll be checking out some new stuff this year, including my first Twin Cities Femme Mafia meeting, which I'm looking forward to. Thanks to Sam for poking at me and causing me to remember it was going on and for her and Betsy for getting me excited about it.
The other thing we did at the gathering this morning was get seriously chirpy at the Rituals MN table (http://www.ritualsmn.net/). I think we made the owner's day. Brief advertising plug - locally made, cruelty-free, women-owned, natural body care products with scents that don't make me gag and choke (I've got chemical sensitivities and am allergic to lots of things). Lovely stuff. :-)
After that, we were off to see "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" - silly but charming Cinderella story.
Now off to go try odd goat cheeses we acquired today.

Date: 2008-03-16 01:40 am (UTC)Odd goat cheeses are good, too. Or at least they might be. Hope yours managed it. (I'm partial to the less serious kinds with nuts and honey mixed in, or sundried tomatoes and pine nuts if its more of a savory occasion.)

Date: 2008-03-16 01:03 pm (UTC)that is being a serious bastard.
And work last week was high drama. Kind of like home life.
Kind of a bummer when I can't go to work to relax. Smile.
This coming week will be better. Has to be.
I'm always right. Or is it never? Well one of the two anyway.
much love

Date: 2008-03-16 05:18 pm (UTC)Re the Cold That Will Not Die, have you tried Cold F-X? (And can you get it where you live?) It's an over-the-counter remedy consisting mostly of ginseng to boost the immune system. Apparently it's harmless to take every day as a preventive measure, but it's fairly expensive. (I take it anyway - can't afford to be sick.) Echinacea and lysine in various forms also help.
And there are always the old traditional remedies: hot baths (or saunas), lots of sleep, liquids, citrus fruit, garlic.

Date: 2008-03-16 10:06 pm (UTC)The TCFM will either be loads of fun or we will make it loads of fun, in that inimitable way that we do. Life is one big preparation for the telling of anecdotes. :-)

Date: 2008-03-16 10:11 pm (UTC)It looks like Cold F-X does exist in these parts but only at the drugstore chain in St. Paul or the suburbs, not our little inner city ones, for some reason. I shall look for it. I am in fact feeling somewhat better today, finally. :-)
