It's been a decent week, except for the not feeling 100% part. I had another Other Me story accepted, which puts Emily L. Byrne at 5 short story acceptances for the year and is lovely. I went to the Russian Museum with Jana and Mom, which was pleasant, though I would have liked to have seen more of some of the exhibits. I followed that up by going to The Hobbit, Part 3, with Matt. It was okay - better than Part 2, possibly better than Part 3.  This Honest Trailers beautifully sums up my reaction to Desolation of Smaug:

I think there are maybe 2 decent two hour long movies buried in 9 + hours spread over 3 movies, which do absolutely no favors to the novel. Stretching out really plays up the areas where Tolkien fell back on reusing plot points as well as producing an enormous amount of filler that doesn't do a whole lot. I really enjoyed LOTR, but don't think I'll be buying these three for a rewatch. Plus, if you're going to introduce a random strong female character (Tauriel), the least you can do is keep her at least functional. So very weepy, so very helpless, so...ick. Peter Jackson Fail on that part, too.

The highlight of the weekend has definitely been the receipt of my holiday gift from Jana: The Folio Society edition of Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories. Just gorgeous! Plus, they included a nice free blank notebook with lined pages as a promo. :-) Now to actually get some writing done!
