Well, that was exciting...
Jun. 4th, 2013 03:06 pmThe weekend kicked off well enough with Fast and Furious 6 on Friday night. While not the greatest film ever made or anything, I did love how almost all the female characters and all the POC characters were assumed to be competent. "Of course you can drive that car like it's an Indy finalist even though you're a noncombatant/in peril ten minutes earlier." I will commence to watch the others in the series time permitting (friends on Facebook have already outlined the story arc for me). I also got to give my pal Matt his bday present, courtesy of Bony Pets, because every broney needs a found art pony with an exoskeleton. :-D
Saturday was all about the errands and a most excellent MN Lynx (our WNBA women's basketball team, for those living elsewhere) game. I hope the winning trend continues through their season - they deserve another championship.
Then the liquid diet prep for Monday's colonoscopy kicked in and the fun began. I faithfully followed the directions from the saner websites - start the liquid diet early, eat light beforehand, stock up on broth, clear juice and jello. I got the non-red dye containing Gatorade to mix the Miralax into and a straw to drink with and let it get nice and cold beforehand. And really, it just tasted like Gatorade. The problem was that my body hated it and thus commenced the barfing, hives and a charming itchy rash. It was during this interval that I failed to win a Bisexual Book Award, which was mildly disappointing, but really, I had other things on my mind and it was lovely to be a finalist in 3 categories (and congrats to the winners, of course!). Eventually, everything calmed down and I got to sleep. Made it to the procedure on Monday with more strange concoctions in me. Got through the procedure with flying colors until...afterwards. I had an allergic reaction to either the anesthesia or the painkiller or both and the barfing/hives/rash cycle started again. Sundry medical personnel dashed in and out and the doctor plied me with Benadryl. I dragged myself to my feet and got dressed. They sensibly put me in a wheelchair and took me out to Jana's truck. I was wafted home, plied with a yogurt/fruit shake and promptly passed out on the couch under the cats, itchy hives and all. When I woke up, all was well, other than being a complete space for the rest of the evening. The good news: don't have to do that again for 10 years and am very healthy.
Somewhere in the midst of all that, I got in another 1000 words on Blood Moon, clearing 20k words on the initial draft, and have been approached about a project by an acquisitions editor at a publisher I had not been considering before. They might be an excellent fit for my other novel in progress, which will still leave me shopping Blood Moon and a possible sequel around, but I want to make some more progress before I start that process. And, of course, there's still my mom and ever on again/off again moving cycle. Got not so great news about the waiting list from the assisted living place and she's getting cold feet again so it's back into the fray on that front this week. Wish me luck please; I'm going to need it.
