But not quite ready to do the year in review thing. Sometime in the next couple of days though.
So far, my week off has included:
  • Having the sewer line routed out (Monday) - apparently we need a liner. Or a new sewer line (the second since we bought the house). Sometime soon.
  • An aborted furnace inspection (Tuesday) - put off until spring/summer. At which point we may be looking at asbestos abatement and a new furnace.Yay.
  • Dinner with Dr. Laura McCullough and writer Kelly McCullough, which was lovely.
  • A visit from the plumber (Wednesday) - no more drippy faucets. Huzzah!
  • Some antiquing which yielded one wonderful postcard of actress Sarah Bernhardt in male dress, holding a shield, and a nice copy of Bullfinch's Fables.
  • 2 more review copies of A Day at the Inn, A Night at the Palace and Other Stories sent out, out of 4 review sites contacted this week.
  • A bunch of furniture and art we didn't have room for dropped off at Covet Consignment on Chicago Ave. (which has really nice things, BTW, and is next to Blue Ox Coffee which has a new exhibit of paintings by the phenomenal Jane Evershed and is across the street from  the Chicago Ave. Fire Arts Center, which now has a new artists' gallery and shop).
  • Some poking at a revived novel.
  • Revisions to Silver Moon. This, incidentally, is a case study on why authors need to edit the hell out of our work. This is my 4th full set of revisions and I'm a very careful editor. The tally so far: 4 typos, one incorrect gender change and three sets of inconsistent eye color and capitalization in the first 50 pages. only 190 or so more pages to go. Also trying to lose around 1000 words before it goes out to Lethe Press in the next week for next year's 2012 publication date.

And in cool queer publishing news (not mine):
Tiny Satchel Press in author/editor Victoria Brownworth's new start-up press which will specialize in YA for LGBTQ teens and tweens. Which is a terrific idea, though their website is one of those "when massive overdesign happens to good ideas" sort of deals (I actually had to shut it down to free up enough RAM to run other sites and my Mac has memory to burn, just saying). But check out their books at your local bookstore or Bella Books or one of the other sites where they are available. This is an idea whose time has more than come.
