We'll start with the jollier stuff about news and writing:

The Cast of Wonders Podcast (Escape Artists) is currently  doing a series of serialized readings from Aleex Acks's "The Curious Case of Miss Clementine Nimowitz" (published in Murder on the Titania and Other Steam-Powered Adventures).

  • Last night, Alex Acks and I had a lot of fun chatting with Madame Askew's Temporal Entourage Book Club. The video is here - they asked great questions and Alex had some great answers. We also teased mercilessly about a third Captain Ramos and Simms book. Fingers crossed that we can make that a thing!
  • Hannah Kate of "Hannah's Bookshelf" on North Manchester Radio (U.K.) reviewed The Voyages of Cinrak the Dapper by A.J. Fitzwater on 8/15 and will be interviewing me on 8/22. Should be fun!
  • Author Nathan Burgoine is continuing his thoughtful story by story review of my collection Out of This World: Queer Speculative Fiction Stories each week on his blog.
  • And finally, I will be teaching "Book Promotion on a Budget" at the Rambo Academy on 8/23 from 9:30-11:30 PST. There's still room for a few more signups! Please spread the word!
Otherwise, I'm hitting a wall and gradually sliding down it. There are some day job issues and I am frankly getting tired of hustling all the time between publishing, writing, teaching and IT so I think I'm getting ready to make a change, preferably out of IT if I can possibly make it work. I'm going to be evaluating what's feasible and talking to folks and seeing where things go from there. More news as I have it.

We have a new chimney, so I can cross that off my list. It's quite nice and is not in danger of falling on our heads, which is lovely.

Minneapolis still looks like a war zone and I'm going to a minimum of 2 benefits a week, of various kinds. The Cheetoh Menace came to town today to exploit the situation (his administration won't approve disaster relief) and he found a couple of biz owners willing to get up and fawn on him. I don't see things going particularly well for them in the longterm here. Iowa...god, Iowa. My thoughts are with you if you got clobbered by the storm or are just plain living through its aftermath and if you've got good leads on places to donate, let me know.

And finally, I, like many in my communities, am mourning the loss of writer Corey Alexander, who wrote as Xan West, and who passed away this weekend. Corey/Xan was a brilliant trans erotica and romance writer - we shared at least 5 TOCs that I can find, many of the Best of the Year erotica anthos. They also wrote a number of other novels and short stories and essays on everything from disability in romance to Jewish BDSM. We chatted a lot over the years and traded book recommendations and I liked what I saw of them quite a bit, even though we never met offline, as far as I know. I never saw Corey be anything but kind to other writers and other queer folks and I know all of us are devastated by their passing (cause unknown at this date). Please read some of their work and honor their memory.

And with that, I'm going to go weep on my cats for a few minutes and go to bed.
