Updates and such
Sep. 4th, 2014 11:32 amIt's been a fairly hectic week, which in turn leads to sporadic posting. The holiday weekend was full of wacky stuff like having to get the wrought iron railings in front of our house replaced (snapped like twigs due to the rust, they did) and going to the MN State Fair on Saturday. Which was a record-setting attendance day and therefore what we in the trade call a "tactical error." We spent most of our time in lines, though we did make it to the Grandstand in ample time for "MN Music on a Stick." Highlights of the latter: Har Mar Superstar and Lizzo doing a set together, Doomtree and Bob Mould, especially when he did a thrash version of the Mary Tyler Moore theme song and got the audience to sing along. Pure awesome. The low points: over a half hour between sets even though there were 6 acts and they weren't loading in and out. We missed Brother Ali because we left to beat the record-breaking crowds for the bus. :-( Also, Cloud Cult, not so much our thing. We split on Cactus Blossoms, but not severely. Other Fair things: the Harry Potter quilt in the Crafts area with the crocheted dolls of the main characters: spectacular. Seed art: fun as per the norm. Otherwise, it was pretty much eating, lines and concert.
Sunday, we took my mom to the Minneapolis Institute for Arts, which was fun up until the point that she started playing her new game in which she folds her arms and announces that she "can't hear" me or "understand a word you're saying," an announcement that follows a couple of hours in which it's been pretty clear that she hears me just fine. I'm finding it singularly unpleasant and need to find a way to handle it, I suppose. Current approach is that I stop talking to her and we whisk her back to her building since there's not much point in continuing (this may be the point of. Not sure). Bleah. :-(
Monday, I baked bread, made chili...and finished a novel draft! FINISHED! For the time being. Next up, new chapter breaks, run off in hard copy, send soft copy to editor and commence more edits on my end. Whee! I'm also going to sign up for Word Press classes, pick a book designer's brain about cover art and look into business workshops at WomenVenture. The rest of the week has been work and canning and reading the entire Sherlock Holmes canon for a possible new project. After which point I will need a palate cleanser of some sort.
