Grabbag of stuff and more stuff
Mar. 20th, 2014 10:07 amLast week featured one con (Marscon), which was mostly fun. The hotel double-booked with a hunting convention and this was a BAD thing, though the con staff did their best. New hotel next year, unsurprisingly. My panels went reasonably well, if a tad disorganized (except for the one some else moderated) and I had some lovely meals, including a highly entertaining one with Esther Friesner, Kathy Sullivan and my buddy Matt. Scored a new pen and a small dirigible in the art show, and a black china tea cup, which is very shiny and pretty.
Then we had 2, count 'em two, trips to the hospital with Mom. These were really NOT FUN, but she's back in her apartment. I need to do some research and such on dementia and long term care. Without insurance, planning or assistance from my parent, unfortunately. So, a mess and a ton of stress. This week's update is that we're looking at moving her into lots more assisted living, which she will resist. But may make our lives easier, so cross your fingers that she gets in to the place near us, only two blocks from where she lives now and with some staff crossover.
This weekend, we did the Prohibition show at the MN Historical Society - which included virtually nothing about MN, irritatingly enough since I'd hoped to use it for story research. Then manic running of errands all over the place for replacement glasses (my backup pair broke during lens replacement) and taxes and groceries. This week launched well with some good work-related news that will ease some financial woes, so there is that.
The only big writing news is that I've had interest in doing a reprint collection of my short fiction from another acquisitions editors/ I may also pitch the erotic sf novel while I'm at it. I'd like to try indie publishing, but I don't think the rest of my life will permit it right now.
