Though I only had a Vote No on the Marriage Amendment sticker on hand, our cats have informed us that we'll be voting no twice.

Haddayr Copley-Woods does an excellent job discussing the impact of the Voter ID Amendment on the elderly and people with disabilities
here.

And we have cute kitty photos, with a message even:
Photo: I'm starting a new meme - adorable kitties support Vote No Twice, though I only had a bumpersticker for Vote No on the Marriage Amendment.
Photo: Ma'at also gets her turn.

But here's the thing, all cuteness aside: we like living in MN. But when "marriage amendments" get passed, as they have in numerous other states, people like us get utterly screwed. We lose partner health benefits and hospital visitation, and for those of us with kids, it can create custody issues. Hate crimes go up because these amendments create an environment where it's easier to victimize us. Hey, we're worthless and can be actively discriminated against anyway so why not take your hate out with a
baseball bat, firebomb or a gun? So honestly, if this thing passes and our legal standing and social standing goes downhill with it, we're going to be exploring job and living options in a more liberal climate. And I suspect we'll have a lot of company.

Voter id amendments are entirely about rich conservatives dreaming about disenfranchising poor people, elderly people, women (driver license doesn't reflect a name change? Forget voting) and immigrants. There's no wave of voter fraud taking place out there. I don't care what the little voices on talk radio say: there is no PROOF (well, except for Mitt Romney lying about his address to vote in a different state).

So please, if you like Minnesota, volunteer and contribute to
MN United for All Families, Take Action MN or one of the other organizations fighting these amendments. Our cats don't want to move either.
