Being 49 so far...
Mar. 30th, 2012 03:35 pmVery ouchy morning so I opted to stay home and take care of myself, seeing as I have actual paid sick time again for the first time in four or five years.
As my birthdays go, it's been quite mellow and pleasant. There have been numerous and much appreciated good wishes. I have entered the 21st century and acquired an ereader (a Nook Color, for those wondering) and ordered in a nice-looking case from someone who makes them. I will plug the latter if I like it when it turns up. I have loaded the following onto it, thus far:
The rest of the weekend will include dinner with my honey, brunch with friends, Roller Derby (viewing, not participating) and possibly going to "Hugo" at the Riv.
Other items of interest:
Christopher Priest provides an object lesson in how not to behave when passed over for a book award, the Clarks in this case.
A Day at the Inn, A Night at the Palace and Other Stories is now up for a 2012 Rainbow Award for SF/F (Hellebore and Rue won a 2011 one, so fingers crossed on this).
Outer Alliance spotlights the Dystopian YA discussion from last week, with links and book recommendations.

- Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (came with the Nook, but I wanted to read it anyway)
- Dark Hunt by Naomi Clark (sequel to Silver Kiss - have started reading and am enjoying immensely)
- Queer Wolf edited by James Rasmussen (currently reading and am liking some stories)
- The Dark Wife by Sarah Diemer
- Steam-Powered 2 edited by JoSelle Vanderhooft
- Princes of Air by Elizabeth Schechter
- Lunatic Fringe by Allison Moon
- Come and Go by Lee Harlem Robinson
