R.I.P. Frank
Dec. 4th, 2011 04:11 pmMy godfather, Frank McNeirney, passed away a few days ago. I had not spoken with him or my godmother, Ellen, in many years. Frank and my father were college buddies and spent a lot of time together before my father's death in the early 1970s. We were neighbors back in Brooklyn ages and ages ago but I saw less and less of the family after high school as they, then I, moved out of Brooklyn to other parts of the country. But they were my first chosen family and Frank was always kind to me and I shall miss him. Among other things I did not know about his recent life, he was head of a group called "Catholics Against Capital Punishment" (for those who don't know me well, I'm from a large Irish Catholic community in NYC, but am no longer a practicing Catholic). He is survived by a large and loving family and led a full a life. I hope he finds whatever afterlife he hoped to see.
