Reviewer Kate Genet gave Hellebore and Rue a 4 star review out at Kissed by Venus, which I'm pretty pleased about. I always figure that if the worst thing any reader or reviewer has to say about your work is a variation on "I wish it was longer!" you're doing something right. :-)
Kissed by Venus is a pretty interesting project; it's a website/web magazine featuring lesbian fiction and book reviews. My pal and colleague C.M. Harris has an excellent essay in the most recent issue about her experiences with hormone treatments and breast cancer. Check it out for some worthwhile reading material.
In more Hellebore and Rue news, you can donate to the Strange Horizons 2011 Fund Drive for a chance to win Hellebore and Rue (ebook or print), Steam-Powered: Lesbian Steampunk Stories (ebook or print) and other great prizes (the prize page is being updated so keep checking back). Donate early and often and spread the word!
In other news, I finished and turned in my first podcast this week. All of my previous ones have been recorded by other folks so this was my first solo effort. I'm reading an excerpt from my story "Vadija," originally published in Lee Martindale's ground-breaking fat fantasy antho Such a Pretty Face (Meisha Merlin Press) and soon to be collected in my soon to be released collection, A Day at the Inn, A Night at the Palace and Other Stories (Lethe Press, 2011). The reading will be featured in Broad Universe's BroadPod Podcast for September, "Fairy Tales for Adults" (no, not that kind. All G-rated.).
I'm hoping to turn in a new class proposal for The Loft Literary Center as well as apply once again for a residency at Hedgebrook and make some headway on both my Femmes Fatales story, as yet untitled and the new novel in progress (cyberpunk erotica) while picking up a new box spring, beginning to car shop to replace Jana's truck and going to the State Fair this afternoon (Seed Art. Dr. John. Roasted corn. Olives on a stick. Fresh honey with things like apricots in it. Am psyched despite the plantar's making me less mobile than normal), all this weekend. What could possibly go wrong? No, don't tell me.
