The weekend thus far...
Aug. 1st, 2010 12:10 pmI got Jana dropped off this morning at the train station to embark on her week long "book binding vacation" in Chicago after a fair amount of trauma due to recent train derailments. Poor thing, she'll get bussed to Milwaukee then bounced through a few different kinds of transport (possibly including mule) to get to her friend's place. Hopefully, she'll at least have a fun and productive week.
Me, I went to go scavenge breakfast. This involved sitting outside the Seward Cafe waiting for it to open while fending off the (relatively polite, if unwelcome) attentions of a local sex worker who seemed to be wrestling with some tweaking after effects. All ended amicably, she went her way and I went off to take a nice walk with my coffee until I could get in to eat breakfast (Yay for greeting the dawn. How I miss sleep...). Now, the cardamon-raisin bread is in the bread machine, the wash is getting done and I am embarking on a full afternoon of writing and editing.
The rest of the weekend involved time spent at Diversicon, where I introduced a friend to the joys of organized fandom. She liked what she saw (mainly a lot of chatting, a reading, opening ceremonies and such) and thinks she'd like to give Marscon a try. We also got in some excellent clothing shopping on Saturday in an expedition that ranged from LaRue's in Minneapolis to Coat of Many Colors in St. Paul. There was also some useful discussion which involved getting me off the current ledge I'm on with my present day job so I think I'm back to having a sense of proportion about it. Though it is still kicking my butt and I would rather it were not. Then back to Diversion for more chatting and hanging out. All in all, much needed relaxation, though very little sleep, which is going to make the week more painful since I don't sleep well when Jana's not around. Ah well.
Now to knuckle down...
