Jun. 30th, 2010 08:25 pmSaints and Sinners GLBT Literary Fest just announced their second short fiction contest - prizes include $$ and publication.
Author Kim Baldwin and friends are doing a lesbian fiction online auction to help Christynn Holt, who's fighting ovarian cancer. Details and bidding information can be found here.
Speaking of fiction about lesbian characters, author Lori Lake has done an interesting and detailed overview of the development of lesbian fiction out here.
In nonLGBT writing news:
She Writes Passion Project has just announced its rules for their undiscovered women writers contest.
And on a totally unrelated to writing note:
if you live in Minnesota, apparently we've got a shot at being the new Arizona of the North. HF 3830 is a new anti-immigrant bill proposed by the same wacky MN GOP that gave the world Michele Bachmann (hint: this is not a good thing) which would compel police to enforce immigration laws, engage in racial profiling and all the other "fun" that you can experience in AZ if you don't look like John McCain or speak English like George Bush, Jr.
It does not have law enforcement support and there's growing church opposition to it. Please contact your reps and encourage them to vote against it, should the opportunity to arise. Some links with additional information:
The text of the bill
Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service
The Facebook Page to Stop Minnesota's Anti-Immigration Bill
MN Advocates for Human Rights
On a personal note, looks like my first round of tests came up negative for the more dire possibilities, which is a very good thing. Now to talk about next steps.
Otherwise, am mostly tired and worn down. The day job is taking a massive toll. Bleah. :-(
