Tales of the Unanticipated #30 is fixing to be released upon the world (and is available for preorder as well as at DreamHaven). It includes stories and poetry by Eleanor Arnason, Stephen Dedman, Jason Sandford and, oh yes, me. My story "The Eqyptian Cat" is included in the current issue (huzzah!). "Cat" is full of the elements that make this genre great: Lovecraft spoofs, Egyptian mythology, cats and two lesbians contemplating whether or not to revive their dormant relationship. I like to think that H.P. is rolling in his grave. Or wherever. :-) And for those interested, this story was written long before we acquired our very own Egyptian kitties.
That said, like every other small press publication on the planet, TOTU is having some financial issues. This issue was actually due last fall, but had to be delayed due to cashflow problems. In order to ensure that the mag will see another 30 issues, there will be a benefit at The Loft Literary Center, Wednesday March 31 from 6:30-8:30. Cover is $5 and back issues and subscriptions will be available. I'm told there will also be cake.
The following fine folks will be reading: multiple award-winner Eleanor Arnason (poet and author); recent NEA fellow and renowned local poet Bryan Thao Worra; award-winning poet John Calvin Rezmerski; and popular local author Kelly McCullough. Should be a fine and excellent time.
If you're on Facebook, you can RSVP at the event page. Full bios of the participants can also be viewed on the MinnSpec Writers calendar.
Please mark your calendars and spread the word!
