Bookselling, Iowa
Dec. 7th, 2009 10:35 amForgot to mention this, what with life being the dizzying whirl that it is.
Bookseller Joe Michaud interviewed me for his book, Booking in Iowa - The Book Trade In and Around Iowa City: A Look Back a few months back. It's out as of a week or so ago. In the interview, I talk a bit about my queer, feminist radical bookstore, Grassroots Books, which was open back in the early 1990s in scenic downtown Iowa City. Kind of cool to have it memorialized as it were. I should also do another shoutout to all the folks who helped me keep it open back then (and another to the Free Medical Clinic which helped me to eventually kick the walking pneumonia that I contracted from 60+ hour work weeks). My personal input aside, the book has a lot of interviews with other booksellers as well so if you're interested in independent bookselling and the book trade in general, this would be a good title to peruse.
