Dec. 3rd, 2009

I got to celebrate the advent of the first nonmelting snow and cold snap of the Minnesota winter with a 5 on the eyeball melter scale (1-5, 1 being the lowest) of migraines. Jana kindly got up at 4:30AM to fetch icepacks from the kitchen to pack my head in. But I had an important work meeting, so eventually I got up and crawled to the bathroom. 45 minutes of retching and showering later, I staggered out to discover that one of the cats had thrown up in solidarity with me. The many little pools of kitty barf blended in splendidly with the patterns on our barely six month old dining room rug. The effect, coupled with the light streamers and agonizing pain and the need to mop up the little pools, was just delightful. I did actually make it to work, only five minutes late for meeting number one, but a whole half an hour before meeting number two, which was the reason for my showing up at all. The rest of the day did not really improve from there. Feeling very tired and very cold, as the AC was on over my cube all day long despite it being freezing cold inside and out.
Also, dismayed to discover that not only am I no longer the radical firebrand of my youth, I am now someone who attempts conference calls on her iPhone while meandering through the acres of parking lot between her car and the day job front door (about a six minute or so walk).

So, gratuitous kitty photo. How to tell when your heating vents are infested with teenage kitties (this is from last week's misadventure when Maat, formerly known as Mysty, went exploring):
