Actual posting of sorts
Mar. 22nd, 2009 12:43 pmIt's been a semi-productive week on the nonwriting front - getting cleaning and errands and doctor's appointments done. Turns out that when my blood sugar goes down, it really is going DOWN. For whatever reason, I'm not at risk of diabetes at present but my body just doesn't store much in the way of energy reserves. I clocked in at 36 but 'normal' is around 80. Gotta do some reading up on that.
Otherwise, bad week on the pain front - got a pinched nerve in my shoulder again and had a (related to the nerve problem) killer migraine yesterday. Bleah! :-(
On the happier news front, I've got a potential new project in the "let's talk about this more" stage and am working on building up a novel writing support/critique group. And we went to go see a terrific Tex/Mex Chicana-by-way-of-Brooklyn, NYC band called Pistolera last weekend at the Cedar. They were a blast - I highly recommend them.
Not so recommended - the 3-D version of "Miss Sadie Thompson" with Rita Hayworth. Can't says as I think this was improved by being in 3D. It was clear that there was a story in there somewhere but that it either hadn't survived editing or the scripting.
Jana got great news last night. A month or so back, she was panicking about a fine binding competition because the book she'd originally picked just wasn't 'speaking' to her so she was in danger of missing her deadline. The theme of the competition was "Time" (See? It's not just writers dealing with the wacky theme stuff!) so I dug out all the old books I had that were bound in signatures and had anything to do with the passage of time. She picked Dreamtime, a collection of Aboriginal myths that I'd acquired from my mom, and did a fabulous binding for it, including making a combination leather onlay and handpainted cover on the story of the origin of fire. The judges loved it and she was told last night that she's in so v. pleased all around. :-D
This in turn led to us going to breakfast in scenic Linden Hills this morning and seeing a turkey (!), domestic size, not wild, wandering the sidewalks of Edina. We know a number of people raising chickens within the city limits and have seen them out and about upon occasion but a turkey was a first.
