Post holiday
Dec. 28th, 2008 11:23 amThe long weekend has gone well; we spent the holiday playing with an Edward Gorey puzzle and lolling about. Friday and Saturday included errands and having friends over and the watching of films of dubious merit. The checklist: Blood Rayne = unspeakably awful, unless your idea of fun is watching Ben Kingsley and Michelle Rodriguez look constipated and deeply unhappy. Spewing and spraying grape juice is copious and frequent. Doomsday = mediocre, which was unfortunate because I liked the premise and you could see many moments in which it could have been a great film. Our plucky heroine gets in some serious butt kicking around inexplicable plot points though. Call of Cthulhu = pretty good. It made for a fun ride and the 'making of' segment was quite hilarious. Edgar and Ellen: Mad Scientists = could use an actual writer as opposed to whatever it is they think they're doing. Disappointing.
Mostly I needed to sleep and I've managed lots of that. Haven't done much writing so that will be today's fun, after one last errand.
On other topics, musician S.J. Tucker (aka http://www.skinnywhitechick.com/) needs to sell some CDs to cover her recent medical bills. Her music has a lot of fantasy/sf influences so it might make an excellent late holiday gift for someone on your list.
She's also working on a fun project with writer Catherynne Valente which involves a late January train trip to New Orleans with both of them and a group of other interesting folks. See http://www.skinnywhitechick.com/neworleans.php for more details.
Intermedia Arts, the folks who present the SASE reading series in the Twin Cities as well as lots of innovative art events like the Flaming Lips LGBT film festival, are launching a Tell 10 to donate $10 campaign - http://www.intermediaarts.org/#campaign to ensure that they'll be around for the next few years.
Heart of the Beast puppet theater, the folks who bring you the fabulous annual Mayday Parade also need a helping hand; they're trying to raise $50k by end of January. http://www.hobt.org/
And now off to get final errand done.
