Did a local publication reading for Haunted Hearths on Thursday night. It went reasonably well but several publicity opportunities I thought I had lined up fell through so it wasn't as well attended as I had hoped. But we sold some books and then got to hang out with fun folks like Ellen Klages, [profile] elizabethth, [personal profile] mr_bad_example, and other witty and charming conversationalists.
Note to self: going to have to really pound on the fact that the anthology is not in fact erotica as there seems to be some confusion on that and on how some of the authors are billing it.

The splendid irony of the "It's your baby so it must be erotic" marketing problem being that for 2008, I'm neatly combining increased name recognition for my own erotica with having a ghastly year on erotica acceptances. Haven't been able to sell an erotic story in about 6 months but my sf/f and romance without the sex is going quite well and been more interesting to me. I've also been writing more of the latter in an effort to beef up my genre street cred. Haven't given up writing smut, but I think there'll be a lot more balance between the erotic and nonerotic work going forward.

Apart from that, went to Pride yesterday and it is indeed as [profile] magentamn pointed out, the State Fair without the rides. Now I like the State Fair but it's not what I look for at Pride. Not much else going on for the nonbar crowd either. The Walker is doing a inexplicable short film festival of really old queer films. I love "Born in Flames" and "Parting Glances" but I've seen them a half dozen times and can remember when they were first released. Time for some fresh blood, people. It is the Walker after all, and you do actually have a budget.

But enough crankiness. We just had an outstanding morning at the Arboretum - gorgeous weather, nice walk, good chatting, and now I need to get to work.
