Going backward -
1. Had some interesting Turkish orange tea (kind of like Orangina without sugar, served very hot) at a funky little Turkish restaurant in St. Paul today, on our way back from the Arts and Crafts Fair at the Fairgrounds.
2. There I acquired the Mission style replica linked bookends that pull apart to make a bookshelf you can put on top of things like a desk. It's quite beautiful and I've been lusting over it for 2 years. It stretched out to 3 feet and I filled the entire thing with contributor's copies of anthologies that I have stories in. Feeling inspired to write more. :-)
3. The vet's office attempted to revisit last year's feline fiasco. Back then, our remaining cat was diagnosed with a heart murmur, hyperthyroid and kidney disease. The vet wanted to give her an ultrasound for the heart murmur, not of course because it would accomplish anything. Except costing us a small fortune. Then we had to fend off the notion of having her thyroid irradiated. We got sent home with some thyroid medicine but with no info about side effects. Kitty goes into massive allergic reaction and claws herself up horribly. I end up researching the whole thing online and we go into 3 weeks or so of kitty detox to get the crap out of her system. Then we switch her diet around and hit the herbal supplements with the result that kitty is still alive and frolicsome, albeit very, very skinny. Today the same vet informs me that they will no longer sell me the kidney cat food we've been feeding her until I bring her in for a "wellness visit." "Right," says I, "because you didn't come close enough to killing her last year?" Lively discussion ensued.
4. And on a positive note, I have a new personal hero. One of my friends who was very close to Mark Loesch (see previous post) contacted me on Friday to chat about his new job. He talked his new contracting company (also connected to Mark somehow) into donating the sales bonus for hiring him on to Mark's family. Basically, he's going to work it off and they're going to contribute a few bucks per hour for every hour he works to the fund. I'm seriously impressed. :-)))
